SO! You want to hear something scandalous?
Many of you probably know that at my uni house, I have two roommates – a girl (the one who steals my food) and a guy called Brett. Now, Brett is a little bit odd (long term readers may remember the ‘boiling of salad and mushrooms’ incident), and girl-roommate HATES him. Like, majorly so. She always used to bitch to me about what a freak he was and so on, but I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt; he’s odd (if only you could see his Facebook page….), but seemed genuine and OK.
Today, girl-roommate phones me up, asking if I’ve seen him recently – as it turns out, he’s changed his numbers, changed his NAME, and run off, without paying anything to the landlady (and us) in rent and bills!! Isn’t that terrible!? What. A. [insert rude word here]. I can’t believe I stuck up for him!! That’ll teach me!
———-
Friday – Friday always used to be Fish n Chip day at primary school and high school. I used to look forward to it SO much! I remember in high school, I’d get my tray, and load it with fish, chips and chocolate crunch with chocolate custard (the other Friday Treat) – I always felt SO sick after!! The food was so bad too..laden with grease! I can’t believe I used to eat like that sometimes :s what foods did you used to love as a child or teenager, but hate now?
Thankfully, the foods I ADORE now and look forward to are a bit healthier! Such as a bright red Empire apple + wheatgerm, and my last Booja truffle before a morning workout:
…or the Epic Green Monster that came after it:
The events I get excited about are also quite different too – the arrival of a food package, to name but one!! I got hold of some fabulous things from my beloved Goodness Direct, to help kickstart my new life 🙂 Now, you might not find this exciting, but believe me, I did!
Pumpkin puree….now I’ve got hold of some in ENGLAND it means I can finally get cracking with opening my pumpkin can from Jessica [The Process of Healing] – and not a moment too soon. As well as pumpkin, there’s some pea protein hidden in there.
I don’t plan on relying on it as a protein source, but I thought it’d be useful for days when I’m a bit low on protein (hopefully not too often!).
Other goodies included pumpkin gnocchi, silken tofu, pizza tofu fillets and…..
….Yes, that is vegan STUFFED PASTA hidden in there! Praise be! Stuffed pasta as you all know, is my ULTIMATE comfort food, so to find a vegan version is just…joy beyond words 🙂
I also got lots of tempeh and yogurt 🙂 Hooray! [By the way – did you know tempeh is pronounced tem-PAY? I didn’t – I’ve been saying/thinking it wrong, all this time…oops]
For lunch, I actually attempted to make something that was mildly presentable – stir fried kale/carrot/spinach/leek (with garlic, balsamic, tomato puree and basil), topped with basil tofu, vegan parmesan and a real basil leaf:
At least I was trying right?
Regardless of the looks, it tasted good 🙂 I also had a piece of toast, with chocolate PB and hazelnut butter, accompanied by a piece of raw vegan chocolate:
And a pear:
Mmmm. I love peanut butter. If anyone has any spare fancy peanut butter flavours that they don’t want lying around…you know who to call 😀
In the afternoon, I had an apple randomly – I certainly wasn’t hungry [an hour after lunch], but after the thought entered my head, I just couldn’t let it go! All I could think was ‘apple, apple, apple….’ – I kept saying to myself ‘STOP THINKING ABOUT THE APPLE’ (that never works), I tried chewing gum to take my mind off it, I told myself I could have one later with my snack…but NO! Head wanted an apple RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT. So I obliged. Sorry, that was rather a long dull story about an apple wasn’t it? Meh, it’s my blog and I’ll be dull if I want to 😀
My real afternoon snack was…..yep, yogurt and cereal 😛
But that is mocha flavour yogurt, and there is some granola and Quinoa O’s in there, so it’s slightly different!! 😀
Hehe, I love those little bowls it’s served in though – they’re made from plastic, so are un-smashable (if that’s a word) which is super good for a klutz like me. I’ve broken a number of pieces of crockery in my time….
ANYWAY.
For dinner, I had some kamut spaghetti pasta! YAY. I also had kabocha, and parsnip, and a nice tomato sauce made with lots of seasonings (cocoa powder, paprika, cinnamon, s+p…). For some added protein I sprinkled it all with roasted beans and chickepeas. Eeerr, delish:
WOW so good. Just for the record – crunchy roasted nuts/beans go SO well with….well, food. Yum.
For dessert….I’m going to have to think a bit harder (I’m yet to have it). I looked on Recipe Zaar last night for some nice dessert recipes, and found some good ones -I’m hoping to put my silken tofu to good use!! Especially since it’s sell by date was the 11th!?….I must hurry! As soon as I get a chance however, I’ll do some pumpkin baking – I’m leaning towards muffins at the moment – and then I’ll have at least 12 ready made desserts, all waiting for me! Oh I can’t wait.
In case you were wondering too..My second package arrived today as well– but you’ll have to wait til tomorrow to see what’s in that 😀
And a final note – Here is a devil cat names Obama:
Fun fact about Devil Cat Obama – she likes to eat baby rabbit hearts. Yes. Isn’t she a sweetheart?
Shame about your roomate! Love all the food you got from Goodness Direct, and your lunch looks great. 🙂 Hope you find dessert ideas soon!
How crazy that your roommate changed his name! I’ve heard of people skipping on the rent but the go through the trouble of changing your name is just insane! Your kamut pasta looked really good 🙂
I love getting packages too… it’s like Christmas all over again haha. Looks like your doing well thinking of fun meal ideas! And I’m right there with you on loving nut butters and pumpkin…yum!
WOW the food you ordered from Goodness Direct has totally inspired me to go order some! Your food always looks absolutely yummyyyy and always keeps me reading your blog everyday and inspiring me to be more creative with food so thankyou!
Oooh and the pumpkin muffin idea sounds good – I’ve just got some pumpkin puree finally too but I need a healthy recipe to make with it soo I’ll wait in anticipation to see what you come up with! 🙂
I’ve just discovered a good pumpkin muffin recipe…in a few days time I should be doing it 😀
Glad your parcel arrived ~ I use Goodness Direct for most of my vegan goodies too.
Just a heads up ~ the So Crispy Italian Herb bites aren’t vegan ~ they have whey protein in them, and whey is a milk derivative: http://www.wholeearthfoods.com/products/snacks/soya-and-rice-bites/socrispy-italian-herb/
The paprika and salt/vingar ones are okay though.
Gosh you’re right as well!! I checked some of their stuff and just assumed it was all the same..damn!! Thanks for telling me 🙂
Sorry to hear about your roommate situation. That is NOT COOL! 😦
Ooh, that is scandalous!!!
Your pasta looks so good!!
Oh no! How weird is it that he just ran off? I hope his actions don’t have any effect on you and your other housemate. Why are people so strange?!
Loving your package. I know how important stuffed pasta is to you so it’s great that you found vegan ones. As ever, all your eats were fabulous!
So I’m commeting from my phone which is a bit
difficult so I apologize any spelling errors, haha but I just have to say… I can’t believe your roommate changed his name and skipped town!!! That’s awful (though it sounds like a bad
soap opera!!) I’m sorry you’re stuck without his
portion of the rent, etc 😦
On a more positive note, all your new goodies look delish! Hopefully that brightened your day a bit.
Oh and finally…why is the devil cat named Obama??? Haha
Oohh an iPhone…you lucky woman!
Haha, she’s called Obama cos when she first arrived there was loads of hype about Barack Obama, and my sister thought it was a cute name (and we thought Obama was a boy…turns out she IS alady!) so we just named her that 🙂 It was a while ago! But since the cute animals have come out to play, we’ve discovered she is AMAZING at hunting – hence why she’s a devil cat 😛
🙂
You liked fish and chip day! Crazy, I always dreaded it…but then I hated all school food and was damn fussy. But Fridays were especially awful! Haha.
Now though is a different story.
Yummers!!!!!! The whole day looks so good. I STILL haven’t made a green smoothie. Next shopping trip I’m gonna get me me some spinach and go for it…I bought a parsnip the other day (just the 1!) and thought of you:) It’s still sitting in my little uni fridge though…oops. I’m really craving kabocha. I might have to get my Mum to buy me one from Waitrose and bring it in especially..no jokes.
Package looks great. I’m a big noosh fan, had savoury oat bran this evening with a good spoonful stirred in. Score on the pumpkin too. I have a can saved from Wholefoods which I’m planning to put to good use with these recipes..

Thought you might be interested. Anyway happyherbivore is a great veganblog.
Sorry I’ll stop rambling, I get pretty excited about vegan food as you can probably tell!
Lots of love, Emm xoxo
Oooh thanks for the links – ANOTHER blogger who has got their own recipe book coming out!! I seriously need to up my game if I want to make some $$$ :p
I don’t think it’s mad at all to get your mum to get you some kabocha – I’ve got 4 sitting in my car (to stay cool), cos I don’t want to run out 😛
Thanks for the comment! xxx
Wow girl, that’s one SWEET package!! And I’m glad you hunted down some pumpkin!
Your roomate.. that’s INSANE. For real!!! It’s amazing how some people can fool you like that..
Your lunch was so cute! And i’m loving the cool plates!
I’m very excited to see what amazing vegan creations you come up with 😉
Love ya girlie!
whoa…crazy roomate story. that’s ridiculous! especially the not-paying anything part – i’d be livid.
all your meals today look delish, girl! and that package is definitely something to be excited about 🙂 and don’t worry – i laughed when i read your apple paragraph because tat is TOTALLY something i would have a “mind battle” about, haha.
obama is a cutie 🙂 and i cannot wait to see your baking creation!! i’m going to try to look up shipping costs tonight 😉
Yeah wow… the roommate situation is beyond nutty! I’m excited to see what you make with the pumpkin. Also, I had the same battle with an apple this evening– I was totally full from dinner but it was just calling to me! I can’t deny an apple craving. 😉
Oh gosh..school dinners.. *cringe*.. I always looked forward to Thursdays: Turkey drummers, chips, chocolate chip cookie and blackcurrant juice..
The diet of champions i think NOT..When my mum found out about my favourite food day i quickly got made to switch to packed lunches…I can’t say i was happy at the time..but im certainly grateful now!
Dear oh dear…i really did NOT need to know about the existence of Goodness Direct Freya..i quite literally JUST cured my online shopping addiction..Ah well..i guess i can consider it a ‘healthy’ relapse.. 😉 hehe..
Question! What’s the Engevita?..Im a swiss boullion ADDICT so the packaging looks familiar..Is it made my the Marigold people?
Hope you have a wonderful weekend dear..
Do that thing you do best and stay balanced..
don’t work too hard!
Peace and love…xox
p.s. im convinced that if you leave uni without at least one flatmate horror story to tell you haven’t lived.. 😉 or something like that..hehe..We had to get environmental health to evict our last flatmate..otherwise my landlord risked losing her HMO license..crazy stuff..
Hehe, it’s nutritional yeast! Have you had it before? It’s cheesey tasting and is packed with protein 😀
Wow, your roomate story sounds horrific! Why did the enviornmental health people have to evict them!!? Were they that dirty!? xxx
Wow, your room mate sounds a bit mental!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that gets excited about health food deliveries, I’m a big lover of Goodness Direct myself and now I know they sell pumpkin puree, I can buy some too – hurrah!
hey girl – thanks for hoppin over to my little blog!
i think natural, non-gmo soy is a wonderful food, but like anything else, i think we need to eat all things moderately. for me, it’s especially important because i’m at risk to estrogen-fed breast cancer, and there’s been a fair amount of debate over whether soy helps or hurts your risks. not saying soy is evil, just for ME personally, i need to be careful.
thank you so much for pointing out that article! it was very interesting, for sure. i don’t put a lot of credit in one man’s opinion, but it certainly has helped me broaden my horizons on all opinions of the food.
ps – love your blog! you are too cute.
– rebekah
I wouldn’t agree with just one person’s opinion either; it’s just nice to hear evidence from both sides 🙂 But after reading your blog background, I totally get why you skip the soy. Better to be safe than sorry!
Thanks for commenting 🙂
All your meals look really delish! Love your triple-nutbutter- toast 🙂
Hi!
What the heck is pumpkin gnocchetti?? I think I want some….maybe….not sure! ha! just what is that?
your toast reminds me of PacMan 😉
Sorry about the roommate. That is bizarro. When I was in college I had a seriously creepy perverted landlord that lived next door to us in a row of townhouses.
He went to jail for installing surveillance cameras in the townhouse next to us (all girls) and by a mirror next to a tanning bed that he rented out. Perv.
Haha, it’s gnocchi…but with pumpkin! I’ve never had it before, I just know that I like gnocchi and I like pumpkin, so why not have both? 🙂
And wow – your landlord story is AWFUL! How nasty and creepy 😦
the roommate situation sounds like quite a fiasco :S Hope it all gets sorted!!
The stuff from goodnessdirect looks amazing!!! Especially the pasta, going to have to order some methinks 😉
xxx
You are doing such a great job of collecting some healthy vegan eats, way to go!
Haha…gotta love British school dinners. I secretly loved the jam sponge pudding and custard. I think this is my first comment on your blog, so “hello” and nice to ‘meet’ you! I love finding other UK bloggers!
Stuffed pasta is one of my favourite foods too.. And I am ordering that pumpkin gnocchi NOW!
Oohh yes, I was a jam sponge pudding fan too! Just minus the custard – I could only do chocolate custard, that was it 😛
And hello to you too 🙂 thanks for commenting!
Hi! So random but that coconut powder, is that a british brand?? is it decent?? we get some of their stuff imported in maputo (mozambican capital) but its SO expensive so I didn’t know if it was worth it.
Ahh I’m very unhelpful – I’ve no idea if it’s British, and I’m yet to try it so I don’t know if it’s any good 😛 but I’ll be sure to make a point of it on the blog when I do, just for you 😛
wow everything on your menu looks so great, especially the spaghetti
Thanks for the comment! The spaghetti was good 😀
I just looked at your website – your bars look awesome!
protein bars always come in handy whenever you need lots of protein after a heavy exercise —
