Sometimes, one title is not enough ๐Ÿ˜›

Sooo I saw the sports physio today! Oh boy….he is a HOTTIE! For realz! But yeah, I’ll get onto that in a minute ๐Ÿ˜›

First up, I shall start this post with some lovely blog search terms, cos I know you all โค them!

– deer ( x 42!!!! Obvs a lot of people like to search about deer on the internet. Huh.)

ฮตฮปฮฌฯ†ฮน (x 4 – if anyone can tell me what language that is…please do!)

pretty men (that makes me happy :D)

– what’s green and runs (me, when I feel ill. Yes, a poor joke, I know)

– madonna operation before and after (Madonna had an operation? News to me!)

– madonna’s ageless (first Kate Moss, now Madonna! Well I never)

– bark-like cereal (I think you mean Fru-Grains?)

– swap ur wife with us (Lol)

swapyourwife.com (I NEED to go on that website!)

– world’s best main course (ha, you won’t find that here!)

– amazed facial faces channing tatum (LOL)

hey brit chick runs, where’s the funky new blog?

Well, in answer to the last one – when BlueHost help me out with getting the header changed! I’m actually not kidding when I say I am trying SOOO hard to get it changed, and I just CAN”T. FRIGGIN”. DO. IT There’s been tears, let me tell you! If I hadn’t already paid BlueHost, I would give up, but I’m not gonna waste that ยฃยฃยฃ…

Anyway! Moving swiftly on – I started the day The Oat Way today:

Actually, that’s melon and yogurt – the oats came after:

Chocolate pudding oats in fact ๐Ÿ™‚

On top of the parish magazine, cos I’m hip like that.

Between oat-eating and leaving for physio, I went for a 1hr walk, and did Level 2 of Jillian, skipping all the cardio (cos it hurt my injured ankle). I thought the walk would be ok – but it actually made my injury feel mucho worso, which = no walking now! Obvs I HAVE to walk (ie to get from my car to my lecture hall!) but no WALK walks. Boooohiss (I wonder if I can get a ‘boohiss’ into every post!? Man, I’m such a Scrooge!)

Late morning, my mumma and I headed out on the town – not to party, alas, but to go to the bank, the store, Boots and Holland & Barratt for my vegan drugs (aka vegan multivitamin :p). Whilst we were there, we made the most of Costa, the inferior, crapper version of Starbucks. Sorry Costa, but Starbucks really did have my heart at hello, and always will ๐Ÿ™‚ I still got a kickass cappuccino though!

Whiiiich totally spoiled my appetite for lunch – in fact, I didn’t even eat it til 4pm, and even then I wasn’t hungry! What I DID do howeverz, was go and see the sports physio!

[I’m shallow, but thank GOODNESS I put on a full face of slap this morning, and took extra time to moisturise my legs – crikey, I would’ve died of embarrassment otherwise!]

Mr Fit Physio (from here on out, known as Mr FF) was, well, brilliant!

a) he was cuteness personified

b) he made me feel totally at ease

c) he has run 3 marathons (includ. 1 sub-3hr…cripes…and his first was in Hawaii!)

d) he runs in general

e) most importantly, he sure does know what he’s talking about (who are we kidding, a) is most important ๐Ÿ˜› I KID!)

Here’s what the What is:

– he reckons my leg pain on a whole is compartment syndrome – whereby the sheath that goes round the muscles is being spazzy and nasty and not helping (to put it in my terms, so it makes sense!)

– my other injury – I can’t remember what he said it was, but he gave me ULTRASOUND on it to promote healing, as well as supercool massage to get rid of the swelling! He also told me to ice it (I have black eyed beans stuck to my ankle as i type), and to rest it – ie no walking. But he thinks it’ll clear up in a couple o’ days.

– when my ankle is healed, he said continue with the walk/running and see what’s what – he gave all my lower legs a good massage too, to loosen everything up, so hopefully they’ll be an improvement.

– he gave me this (excuse the horrific picture):

Which is one of those elastic band things..to do foot exercises with (it’s hard to explain here) when my injured ankle is healed, annnnd I’m going back next Friday – he’ll see me run on a treadmill to look at my style (I have ‘loose hips’ apparently, which is why I run like a doof) and to look at treatment stuff.

Most importantly – he is confident there is no stress fracture, he didn’t laugh me out of the room when I said there was a marathon in Oct I want to do, and he didn’t need to amputate my leg(s) –

Sooooo plan of action: rest. Then run ๐Ÿ™‚

Wahey! i feel a lot better having seen him, so fingers crossed I’m on the path to SuperFitness again ay! ๐Ÿ˜€

‘Lunch’ today was some soya mince (I made it curry flavah) mixed with roast veggies:

Followed by a buttload of cereal and yogurt and an apple when I got home. I was somewhat rushed when we got in the door – i realised I wanted tempeh for dinner, which needed MARINATING immediatosso!

Annnnd my mum had requested yet more oatmeal bars, as she’s seeing a longlost friend tomorrow, and wanted to bring gifts of joy ๐Ÿ™‚

Her wish is my command ๐Ÿ™‚

Thheeeen I got to have my dinner – said tempeh, fried:

With a load of roasted kabocha, aubergine and parsnip, and a banana-peanut flour – cinnamon/nutmeg-vanilla-soya milk-CABBAGE (!) smoothie on the side:

A delicious meal, if ever one did exist ๐Ÿ™‚ Plus, I seriously need to use nutmeg more. Nutmeg + banana + cinnamon is really rather scrummeh, if I do say so myself.

Buuuuut now, my bed calls, my Heat magazine calls, and my ankle is frozen solid and needs its’ bean cocoon removing, pronto.

Au revoir!

Ps – thank you to all your comments yesterday – it meant a lot to know that other people feel the same/have been through something similar/had wise words to say – I felt 10 x more at ease after reading them.

Question – favourite smoothie combination? Mine is withouta doubt, banana, peanut butter, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg. SO GOOD!

Get it? A play on the title of that show, The Good Wife. No, I never watched it either :s Was it good? I just remember it cos it has that lady from ER in it ๐Ÿ˜€ and she got to kiss George Clooney, which is pretty cool! Though I think Channing Tatum is more up my street:

Don’t you reckon?

Anyway, pretty men wasn’t the subject of this post – me (my?) being a good daughter was the subject of this post!! I promised my mummabear yesterday or the day before I’d make a cherry and almond traybake for her work – but the past 2days, I just haven’t had the energy/time to make one (it takes ages cos you have to 1/4 and wash 300g of cherries and it is DULL, sticky and takes ages!). When I came home today, I wanted to bake – just, I was short on time…so I did for her what I always used to do, every week, for about 2years, to make up for the lack of bake-age:

Homemade museli!

She used to adore my homemade museli, but when I left for uni (my 2nd year) I stopped doing it cos I didn’t have time anymore. She sure was happy when she came home to see the mix being … mixed ๐Ÿ˜€

Toasty nuts:

And raw oats, crushed Oatbix, bran sticks, wheat flakes, chia seeds, hemp seeds, cinnamon, dried fruit (raisins, dates, apricots), toasted coconut flakes:

Pre-nut-mix above…

Nuts added below!

She luffs er’ muesli ๐Ÿ˜€

I then proceeded to cook her and my stepdad’s entire dinner (as I often do :p) cos she had a late client (sweet potato, red pepper, carrot, honey, seasonings, shallots – all cooked in the Actifry, and battered fish). See – GOOD DAUGHTER!

Now, I’m gonna be honest – I really don’t have much to say today! I could show you yet more pictures of oatmeal, cooked the same way….

….with a side of melon & frozen grapes:

(yep, still using the Christmas plate – Rudolph says HEY, and he’s enjoying his staycation :D)

Or the cereal & soya milk mess I ate upon entering the house after uni:

Or I could even show you a fascinating photo of a slab of tempeh (1/2 block, split again), marinating in freshly squeezed OJ, mixed spice, maple syrup, soy sawwwwce and apple balsamic vinegar (twas laying in a puddle when I left the house this morning, but had absorbed aaaall the liquid when I got back. Amaze.):

Which then got its’ ass fried and served for my dinner:

Or, I could send you on a crazy flashback in time to when I used to have Green Monsters, all the live long day:

Except this wasn’t a flashback…it was part of dinner!

1/2 c. soya milk, 1/2 serving PB flour, 1 frozen banana, KALE, cinnamon, vanilla extract.

Or – I could show you dessert:

But that would all be dull :p

So instead, I’ll just accept that I have little to say! If you really do feel deprived of your BCR hit of the day, feel free to go and view my amazing incredible vlog from yesterday, and marvel at the fact that I – ignorant fool of all things technological – managed to get an actual VIDEO onto my blog. MARVEL AT ME!! ๐Ÿ˜›

Question: Have you been a good daughter/son/girlfriend/boyfriend/friend/sibling recently? Now’s the time to show off what a lovely person you are ๐Ÿ™‚

PS – has anyone seen Blue Valentine?

Is it good? I desperately want to see it!

Detox follow-up

Ok – after reading the comments on my ‘detox’ post from yesterday, I don’t think I made myself completely clear (I was SOOO tired!! 11pm is not a good time to write a post :p).

The detox idea is NOT about weight loss, food ban, excessive restriction, or a long term thing (it’s more of a challenge – thank you commenter who suggested that!). There’s also nothing wrong with oats (in fact they’re a super food!) BUT – I am stuck in a food rut, eating the same limited things – at the expense of other nutrients from foods like lentils, spinach and chickpeas – over and over. Not cos I don’t have enough time, just cos I’m in a rut and it’s easier. I also feel crummy and rundown physically, and I know this is cos of my limited diet at the moment.

I’m also someone who responds well to rules (that’s just me, my disposition…I also often need to go cold turkey on something to stop it); if I give myself a rule, I WILL stick to it. SO, to help me get out of a rut, try new recipes and foods, and make myself feel better physically, I want to say NO to the foods I’ve been relying on far too heavily for, literally, a week, JUST so I can make myself experiment more. I don’t plan on cutting coffee, Clif bars or oatmeal out of my life for good! I just don’t think I should eat ONLY those three!! (Diet Pepsi on the other hand? Yeh, I probably should live without that :p). I don’t want to lose weight or anything of the sort, I just want to be more free with my eating habits. Oh, and again – nothing wrong with repeating meals, BUT I actually want to be creative and eat different things! Just I often go for the easier option out of habit, and it’s a habit I want to break ๐Ÿ™‚

Ya get me?

Ok! Moving swiftly on.

Ohlala, I slept terribly last night! In fact, I dreamt – when I eventually did get to the land of nod – that I was driving and was so tired I crashed the car into a field! When I dragged myself out of the wreckage, I proceeded to fall down a waterfall. As you do. At that point, I woke up :/

Needless to say, this morning my eyes actually hurt with tiredness ๐Ÿ˜ฆ All the more reason for a ‘what makes me happy‘ post dontcha reckon!!?? I like doing these posts ๐Ÿ™‚

1) Blake Lively and Florence of Florence and the Machines fame:

I love those two! Why? Well – they’re both small giants, like me! I’m 5ft9, they’re both 5ft10 (and proud) and that makes me HAPPY! They’re also super role models, being healthy physically and oh-so talented. Well, Florence is – not so sure about Blake…my experience of her skills is limited to Gossip Girl, and we all know that every actor on that show obvs gets overshadowed by the wonder that is the (British!) Ed Westwick/Chuck Bass. Duh.

2) I’m driving along, happily singing to my CD on the way to uni today (Bruno Mars, Grenade) and about 37secs in, I decide to see what’s on the radio. The exact point where I paused the CD was the EXACT point where the same song was playing on the radio! Like – on CD ‘But darlin I’ll still…[pause]’ —-> on radio ‘catch a grennaaaade for you’ :O it was incredible! Little things people, little things!

3) Oatmeal:

I used the same method as yesterday (cooking 1/2c. with lots of liquid, then leaving it to sit in a warm place for 45mins) and OHY MYYYY again! I really can’t describe the wonderful texture:

Either I’m on to some new amazing method, or I’ve been doing oatmeal wrong all this time ๐Ÿ˜›

4) New issue of Runner’s World

This issue was all about motivation, and ohmydays, I am countin’ down the days til I can run properly again! I am DYING to get back out there! Especially after reading all the great speed training workouts in this issue. As soon as I am back to my full training ability, I am going to start doing some real good drills :p so excited!

5) Peanut banana sauce on tempeh ๐Ÿ™‚ 1/2 serving peanut flour, mixed with water, salt, maple syrup and melted mashed banana…

(my last bag, bought when I ran the marathon in Washington DC. I made my mum traipse through the streets in the heat, getting lost, for about 2hrs, JUST to find a Trader Joe’s :p)

6) Blog search terms ๐Ÿ™‚ This week, we have gems such as:

– I just walked 14miles and I feel really sick

– cat named darcy

– nosebleed in cold weather

– old cereal

– pink sparkly things (i love whoever searched that! And must’ve trawled through thouuusands of pages of results before finding my blog!!??)

– kate moss smoking just to annoy freya (cheers for that)

– i’m doing this so I can be on brit chick runs blog search list, holla (it worked!)

And, this is odd – someone clicked off of the following website to find my blog;

Er…..???!!!! No words.

Just…no words.

What’s made you happy today?

Ay, it’s THAT time of year again. You know the one I mean – where everybody under the sun starts to make new year’s resolutions. I doubt I’ll surprise you all by saying mine aren’t the usual go on the cabbage soup diet/do some big cleanse of real food/join a gym&go every day for 2hours/find world peace. Ooooh Noooo!

Although it’d be nice to find world peace, it’s not on my To-Do list for 2011. Maybe 2012? We’ll see how it goes. But yeah, my 2011 resolution-type-things:

1) Learn how to use my camera properly! Gah, I sooo want to be able to take proper fancy photos, and I am sitting on the equipment; I just haven’t learnt how to use it to my advantage yet :/ See, ze preblemo iz – Ah ‘aaate learneen zee technishizzle! ISO, shutter speeds, P, A, etc etc. It’s so darn confuzzling! I tend to just stick to my pre-programmed automatic settings – But this year, this year it ALL changes. I will learn how to take good photos!!! First step – buy a cheapo second hand camera-workings-for-fools book ๐Ÿ˜€

2) Graduate. Just one…more…6monthperiod…to..get…through…then I’m DONE! I can go from being a jobless, penniless student, to being a jobless, penniless bum. It’ll be great! At least for the 5days or so I have to spare, then I’ll be off to summer camp to work, but whateverz.

3) Cook properly more. I cook and stuff – but I’m very rarely imaginative, or use recipes, or venture out of my comfort zones. 2011 will be the year where it all changes! I want to make use of all my tons and tons of recipe books and bookmarked tabs and wonderful blogs, and go mad. My kitchen won’t know what hit it ๐Ÿ˜€

4) Watch Grey’s Anatomy Season 5. That’s a deep resolution isn’t it?? Well not really – I love GA, I just have yet to get round to watching that season, which is dumb, cos a) I love it, b) I miss it and c) I said so.

Oh gosh – only 4 down, and I’m stuck! I’d love to write goals like run another half marathon in xyz time, but I can’t commit to one – I’ll be flying off to the States in June, and from March onwards, I know I won’t want any extra stressors (exams do enough for the both of us…if that makes sense :/). So that really only gives me 3months to train and run one from now…and I’m not sure (right now) how much I want to do one. Ha. This time next week I’ll probz be blogging about having entered one – bah!

(2days later)

I have some more!

5) Be more patient. I’ve seen this on a number of blogs, and I really think I need to jump on the bandwagon. i have a tendency to lose my temper, snap at people, and get irritated by the smallest things. Maybe 2011 is the year to say ‘deep breath, count to 10……..’ and deal!

6) Run a fast(er) 5k. Now, I’m not really setting an official time, like sub10minutes or whatever, cos I don’t want the pressure. BUT I do want to do a fast one! I’ve never done one sub-25minutes, so I’m guessing under that as a 1st goal, and then we’ll see ๐Ÿ˜›

7) Find a new hobby. You know I was reading a Jodie Picoult book today, and it was banging on about an American Indian bloke and his heritage. It sounded very, very fascinating…all their little tales and stories that explain their world – i liked it! Maybe learning more about that?

At the moment, that’s where I’m at – but no doubt I’ll come up with more soon enough ๐Ÿ˜€

In the spirit of ‘that time of year again’-ness, I was gonna do a big ol’ recap of the year post. However, I’m crap at organisation on this blog. I spent about an hour late one evening going through my posts this year, got to February, realised I’d a) spent AGES doing it, and was only 1/6th of the way through, b) had linked to about 20 different pages already and c) … there is no c). It just sounds better ๐Ÿ™‚ SO – I don’t have a summary! But briefly, the highlights:

– I did 3 half marathons (go to my running page for links)

– I survived my 2nd year uni exams (a miracle in itself, especially the week that went like this – Mon: exam. Tues: exam. Weds: exam. Thurs: Turn 20. Fri: exam. Yeah.)

– I flew to Chicago and attended the Healthy Living Summit, resulting in the best weekend of my entire life

– I flew to Washington DC and ran my first marathon

– and plenty of other stuff ๐Ÿ˜€

Short and sweet ๐Ÿ™‚

Now back to the regular bloggy bloggerness!

Good food?

I can’t remember what it was marinated in, but I know it involved balsamic vinegar and Italian-y herbs, and I know it was darn awesome ๐Ÿ˜€

Other good food? A meal out at a brand spanking new Vegetarian restaurant just a 20minute car ride away:

That would be grilled fig, with hallou…cheese and leaves (I shared with my mum – I didn’t have the chez)

For main –

Parsnip, chestnut and cranberry terrine!!! OOOHHH my days. With parsnip crisps on top! And a whole parsnip! To. Die. For.

Slightly less fancy – but equally delicious – regular eats:

Pumpkin oats (steel cut baby!):

Bathed in extra soya milk ๐Ÿ˜€

Trader Joe’s peanut flour steel cut oats:

Vegetable stew (quite possibly my favourite eat…):

And this rather peculiar bar, that I picked up at the airport in Washington:

It was….odd. 9g of protein (win), but somewhat synthetic tasting, despite having an ok-looking ingredients list. The jury is out on these bars :/ *strokes beard*

Now for my PLEA!

Look what happened today:

Yes – that’s an EMPTY Trader Joe’s peanut flour bag!! Why do I care so much?

Hello, a heck of a lot of vegan protein that isn’t soy and tastes like peanut butter ๐Ÿ˜€ Need I say more?

I knew this day was coming, and I’d been dreading it. Thankfully, Freya-shopping-in-Washington-in-October also knew this would happen, and bought two bags to be prepared, so I still have one :p But still – my plea is to American readers who live within shooting distance of a Trader Joe’s that sells peanut flour (I’m specific) – How about a foodie swap!? You give me peanut flour, I give you whatever you want ๐Ÿ˜€ (but within reason please – I’m not giving you the Queen, or gold leaf encrusted truffles)

How about it!!??

My email address IS on the About page, or you can leave me a comment. I am BEGGING someone out there to help me!!

And that is all.

Happy Friday lovelies!

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know this already –

I don’t like sandwiches.

Seriously, how often do you see a sandwich or a wrap appear on here? Hardly ever, that’s how oft! I find bread very blaaah. My mum and sister go wacky over fresh crusty bread (as do a number of bloggers), but I’ve just never got it… In the past 6 or 7 months, there’s been 2 sandwiches I’ve liked. One was a tempeh, banana and peanut butter sandwich, and one was a roasted veggie sandwich. But, my dears, the other day, I had the sandwich DREAMS are made of!

It involved hummus and canned pumpkin….

….spread thickly on seedy wholemeal toast (fyi, random side note: Jesus Walks by the one and only Kanye just came on the radio..PARTY IN MY HEAD! Ever since I saw Jarhead, I have LOVED that song! Bliss.):

Then piled with roasted mushy aubergine:

I then stuck it in the keep-warm oven for 10mins or so, so it went REALLY crispy and hot through.

Oooooooooooooh my days.

Never have I had such a gooey, delicious sandwich! Seriously!! I mean, it must’ve been good – I’ve just dedicated a post to it!! It was even good enough to repeat the next day too, with the addition of some roasted mashed kabocha:

Happy days ๐Ÿ™‚

All my other eats kinda paled in comparison to be honest ๐Ÿ˜ฆ But some highlights, food wise? Reduced-to-clear blackberries:

Reduced-to-clear sharonfruit (permissons or something, to all you crazy Americans):

I worked out if you go into a supermarket [Waitrose] the minute it opens [cos your bladder is about to burst], you can pick up a ton of bargains ๐Ÿ˜› (ohemgee, fyi, the same radio station is now playing a song by Notorious B.I.G and co, which I love! You know, the one that was released a few years back – Nasty Girl -, despite the B.I.G bloke being dead for years…beyond the grave singing. Quite a talent!)

I had the best tempeh the other night too – after reading a post by my fellow horsey blogger about steaming tempeh, I decided to go for it. I steamed my T for 10mins, then marinaded it in a white wine vinegar/smoked garlic/soy sauce/maple syrup/something else which I forget mix, I fried it and the result was the most succulent lump of soy I’ve ever had!

The photo does it NO justice.

Today’s breakfast was somewhat random – an out-of-date Mojo bar.

As you do. I was in a rush!!

But lunch…oh did lunch make up for my breakfast! I made parsnip, maple and apple ‘soup’!!

A tiny weeny apple cooked with a chunk of leek, mixed spice and EVOO spray:

When mushy, I added in 1 tsp maple syrup and a load of parsnip chunks, with weak stock for boiling:

It simmered away for however long it simmered away for, til the parsnips were all soft. While it was cookin’ up a storm, I made a tiny roasted salad – kale, kabocha, broccoli:

By the time I’d eaten that, I’d also blended the soup and was ready to eat it, with a blob of soya yogurt:

See, I very loosely use the term ‘soup’. I don’t like watery soup (blates), but add more water in to get the consistency you like ๐Ÿ™‚

oooyyyy vveeeyyy! It was soososososos DELICIOUS!!! Party in the tummy, I tell ya.

In other news:

Obama came back (whenever I say that, I want to start rapping ‘Baby got back’. Mah! It takes some real self-control to defeat the urge!). She’s a weird one. She disappears for a month, then appears – looking fat and shiny – and hangs about for a week. Then she goes, and the cycle repeats. Honestly, if she was in the army, she’d get shot for deserting. Maybe I should dig out my gun, no?

In more, other, news:

I had a lovely jubbly 5mile run this week ๐Ÿ™‚ my first one since…my 7miler the other week!? The weather has been AWFUL all week; gales, rain, wind (a lady died!), so I’ve been sticking to indoor workouts. It felt GREAT to be out!

In more, more, other, news:

I think I have a post coming up soon about Life Post-Marathon. Eating, exercising, that kinda thing. It’s been interesting!

By the by – you probably don’t watch X Factor, nor care about it. But that does little to put me off. Check out my favourite X Factor performances ๐Ÿ™‚

My fave boy, Matt, who I want to win:

My other fave boy, Aiden (he’s 18!! yet I find him incredibly attractive….:p):

Mary Tesco:

Matt’s audition – don’t you LOVE him!!??

Uh..I’ll leave it at that. Believe me, I could go on and on and on……

Oh no! One more song I’ve been loving:

Loooooooveeee it.

Question: Any Brits out there watching X Factor? Who do you love/hate? For me – LOVE Matt, Aiden and Rebecca! HATE Cher, Katie and Wagner ๐Ÿ™‚

(PS – I don’t seem to be updating my recipe page atm..BUT when I make something I feel is recipe-worthy, I tend to tag it under ‘Recipe’. So if you have too much free time, feel like trawling through back posts, and want to cook something you probably won’t like all that much, you know where to go! :p)

….or, as the case may be, don’t.

Normally, I’m really good at imagining things – when I used to compete regularly in dressage, I’d imagine riding through my test (every single step, corner, transition) over and over. I’d imagine finishing it with a smile, getting a great score, and winning the class. It’s amazing what imagination can do! So many times, my imagined scenario would come off. The days I didn’t do it, I often did a much worse test. Correlation or causation? Causation, in my opinion ๐Ÿ™‚

So, I thought I’d do some serious imagining re the marathon – I want to imagine myself reaching 10miles, 15miles, 20miles, NOT hitting a wall, hitting 23miles, 24miles, 26.0miles, 26.1miles, the finish…I want to imagine getting my medal, meeting my mum (and no doubt crying :p) and the sheer joy of having done it! But – I can’t!

I try and imagine all this, but my mind is blank. It’s not negative, it’s not positive- there’s simply nothing there to imagine!! It. Is. Infuriating. I think a lot of it is because the whole thing is SO different to anything I’ve ever done before. i’ve competed dressage thousands of times, ridden, done the whole shebang, but running a marathon? In America? Alone? With 35,000 people!? Heck, I’ve done 4 running races in my entire life, the biggest having had about 1000 entries!

I talked to my mumma about it the other day, and we agreed that by the time I’m IN DC, and I’ve picked up my packet and gone to the First Timers Evening, everything will fall into place, and my power of positive thought will take shape….here’s hoping! I don’t want to run it blind…

Whilst we’re on the subject – I always used to imagine what it was like to buy canned pumpkin, and then to EAT said pumpkin. It was a distant dream. Until today! Yep, I broke into my first can of pumpkin this morning ๐Ÿ™‚ OATS it was! (Perfect after a 26minute very very cold 3miler :))

– a large 1/2 c. oats/spelt flakes (spelt flakes give it a great chew!)

– 1/2 c. soya milk, 1/2 c. water

– a large 1/2 c. pumpkin

– a tiny weeny banana (and another half, cos it was so small :p)

– cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, almonds

Oh, I squealed with joy!

I was so excited! Til I started to cook it – then it looked SO watery! After a good 5mins of stirring on the hob, I put it in a bowl and shoved it in the Aga for 5mins whilst I unpacked the dishwasher. I then put it in the keep-warm oven, and by the time I got round to eating it, it had hardened up to my liking ๐Ÿ™‚

SUPER! Extremely, extremely delicious!! OH pumpkin, where have you been all my life!!?? I didn’t want the bowl to end ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Obvs it did. Good things always come to an end :/ (even my can of pumpkin – it’s been 1day and it’s almost finished….) But I had so much other yummy food to look forward to! In fact, I’ve had some GREAT things these past few days!

Pre-run fuel of an O bar:

Fab ingredients:

Love them! So dense and delicious, AND a portion of fruit ๐Ÿ™‚

Peanut butter coated parsnip and brussels sprouts:

A very gooey peanut butter sammeech:

(I miss peanut butter – I never, ever think of doing it in a meal – probs cos the jar (x 6) are hidden in the cupboard. Out of sight, out of mind!)

Chocolate roasted chickpeas, with hummus and tempeh:

Actually one of my all time favourite meals ๐Ÿ™‚

And today! Which I shall name The Day of Pumpkin! Pumpkin oats, and pumpkin on toast, with cinnamon:

Holy cow.

I worked out my favourite bit of the toast was the crappy burnt bit:

Oooobviously, I saved it til the end, with my other favourite bit :p

Yeah, it was goooood.

I also had a bowl of my favourite roasted veggies – onion squash (this one I’m on is INCRED!! It beats my last kabocha hands down!), parsnip, brussels, aubergine, kale:

Annnd just now, I snacked on a bowl of cereal with soya yogurt and…yep, PUMPKIN! It was to die for ๐Ÿ™‚

Besides good food, what else have I been up to..being busy, that’s what! I sure do miss blogging regularly, but by GOSH I do not have any free time at the moment! I’ve got my lectures, commuting, and a dissertation to sort out, which is taking FOREVER (I have to go into schools and test children). I’m also doing some volunteering in a primary school (or will be – training first), teaching them about history. I’ve had lots of meetings about it, and it’s going to be so fun!!! I’m trying to ride as much as I can too, as well as sticking to my marathon plan. My final ‘long’ run tomorrow, 8miles….after that, I have a 3miles, a 4miles, and a 2miles, then – MARATHON!

I can’t believe how soon it is – my mum and I leave on Tuesday!!! Crazy crazy. I’m nervous!! Plus, I’m a bit miffed – the amount of lectures, meetings, work and organisational time I’m missing is ridiculous :s oh well!!

Annnyways – I better get my groove on and get movin’. Have a good evening!

Question: Do you believe in the power of the imagination, or positive thought? Has it ever worked for you?

Wow, does marathon training skew your view of what an โ€˜easyโ€™ run is โ€“ all I could think today was โ€˜aaah Iโ€™m only running 12miles, eaaasyโ€™โ€ฆI mean, wtf!? Itโ€™s TWELVE miles! I canโ€™t wait for the day [post marathon] where 4miles is a decent hard workout again ๐Ÿ˜€ Oh well.

Rest day! Woo hoo! Some days, I dread rest days, cos Iโ€™m..well..restless! But I felt like I needed one today ๐Ÿ™‚ so it was a welcome addition. And heck, I sure made the most of it! I didnโ€™t wake up til 8.25am, then read in bed for 15mins โ€“ bliss. Plus, it was a beautiful morning today; cold but sunny. I spent about a half hour whilst I worked up a breakfast appetite snapping Chika/Kovac/Poppy photos outside โ€“ I canโ€™t wait to show yโ€™all later in the week ๐Ÿ˜€

Breakfast โ€“ a spinach pear Epic Green Monster, topped with hemp seeds (I didnโ€™t blend them in today), dates, Grape Nuts and cereal:

Nooo!! I’ve just realised thereโ€™s a tiny little (cat!?) hair on my spoonful in the photo below! Gah. Iโ€™ll have hairballs in my stomach now :/

Tres delicious. Despite the hair. In fact, I think it was the addition of the hair that made it taste so good.

I had a good schooling session with Chika after breakfast (despite Tig being away at a competition this weekend), and then decided to do something Iโ€™ve been meaning to do for the past week โ€“ homemade bean burgers!

  • 2 cans of beans (butter beans and pinto beans, all I had)
  • 1/2 c. salsa
  • coriander seeds
  • garlic granules
  • 4 tbsp vital wheat gluten
  • salt
  • 1/2 c. oats

 sat1 023

sat1 024

Blended the beans and salsa and spices roughly:

sat1 025

Tipped it all into a dish, mixed in the oats:

And the VWG:

sat1 028

Shaped into 5 burgers:

sat1 030

Baked for 20mins on 160degrees (fan oven), and then got them out to flip. And flip they did. Onto the floor:

sat1 034

A hand was burnt. A spatula was thrown. A tear (or 10) were shed. It was horrible! Though I thanked The Powers That Be that Iโ€™d put the burgers on two trays, so thankfully, two were salvaged. I baked them for another 10mins:

Sadly, the burger fiasco totally ruined my appetite for lunch ๐Ÿ˜ฆ but I stormed ahead, cos it was a good โ€˜un!

Apple and Onion Sauce

I made a โ€˜sauceโ€™ by cooking (over a medium heat) a small chopped onion and a small chopped apple, with stock (a 1/4c. to start, and I added more water as needed):

Til it was mush: sat1 033

Meanwhile, I roasted swede, aunt-grown butternut squash, and carrot, and boiled 60g wholewheat pasta. All together:

The onion/apple thing? Oh my!! Delish! Sweet yet savouryโ€ฆ.LOVED. IT.

A fig (my last one!!) was consumed for dessert ๐Ÿ˜€

Dinner โ€“ I did a tempeh thing, with a cocoa peanut butter sauce and a cocoa-lentil veggie mix ๐Ÿ˜€

sun1 006

Look at that rich colourโ€ฆ.wow! sun1 011

What can I say โ€“ I LOVE THAT MEAL (made better by watching X Factor whilst eating it :p)! I was going to have a burger, but Iโ€™m freezing them so my mum and I can have them on Wednesday (when itโ€™s just us two).

12 mile day (aka a taper week)! I was sliiiightly dreading today, cos I looked at the weather forecast, and it said rain. ALL morning. Not cool! Howeverrrrz, when I did get up, there was no rain!! Sooo I made a super quick Fitnessista inspired breakfast cookie (but made in the morning and eaten immediately ๐Ÿ˜€ no overnight-hardening for me!):

50g oats

1 banana, mashed

a big forkful of peanut butter, mashed into the banana

I then mashed everything together, and topped it with a spoon of Grape Nuts and dates:

sun1 014

Sooo delicious! Why have I not made these before!? Good gracious. I really recommend you make one if you havenโ€™t ๐Ÿ˜€

I let that go down for an hour or so, ate a rice cake, then headed out into the grey and miserable glorious cloud.

9.15 (I decided to take it slow as I was a tiiiny bit wheezy on the last 1/4 mile of mile 11)

= 1hr46 & 12miles

You know what? It was brilliant!!! I felt ACE! My best training run to date ๐Ÿ™‚ The hardest part was actually slowing myself down โ€“ I kept looking at my Garmin and seeing 8.00/8.15 splits โ€“ good, but bad, cos I didnโ€™t want to burn out!! But yeah, it was a really, really good one. Was it the breakfast cookie? Or the amazing tempeh sauce? Or the super night of sleep on Friday? Or a positive attitude (after all, 12 felt like cake compared to the 18 this Sundayโ€ฆ.)? Who knowsโ€ฆ.

Weirdly, the only fuel I had was 500ml Lucozade Sport, and 2 small dates! I just did not feel the need for anything, and I actually felt better for having a lighter stomach. Very curious.

Anyway, who cares โ€“ it was a fabulous run and I felt GREAT!

Brunch was an Epic Green Monsterโ€ฆonce again, with a pear instead of spinach ๐Ÿ˜›

  • 1 c. cereal
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. yogurt โ€“ soya yogurt, so it is vegan ๐Ÿ™‚ Iโ€™ve had a lot of questions about that recentlyโ€ฆ
  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds
  • a pear
  • frozen banana
  • toppings: Grape Nuts, homemade jam, almonds, dates

sun1 016

Thatโ€™s plum jam, made from our very own plums growing in the garden ๐Ÿ™‚

sun1 019

sun1 020

I was then a complete fool though โ€“ straight after that big meal, I had a lunge lesson on Chika (almost like yoga on a horse โ€“ it felt GREAT!), which was fab in itself. My mum gives us such difficult exercises to do, in trot and canter ๐Ÿ˜€ howeverโ€ฆ1/2 hour of sitting trot does NOT do wonders for a stomach! I felt SOO sick after!!! The whole of my brunch was just being bounced about and it was horrible :p I shanโ€™t make that mistake againโ€ฆ..

I had an afternoon snack of cereal and yogurt:

sun1 039

As well as a small apple, blackberries and large (large) amounts of hummus whilst making my mammaโ€™s lunch for tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜›

I also got some cuteeee pics of Carter ๐Ÿ˜› (I put them up mainly for your benefit, Lily :p)

sun1 022

I love this cat SO MUCH.

sun1 030

And so he doesnโ€™t feel left out..hereโ€™s Kovac too:)

sun1 032

Heโ€™s the supermodel of the family!!

Rightio, I hear the Call of the Cookery right now, so Iโ€™m gonna obey it and go cook me some dinner ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a lovely evening (hopefully watching X Factor, if youโ€™re British :P)

Oh! โ€“ I mentioned it in my last post, but in case you missed it โ€“ do you like the new header!? The wonderful Jess made it for me ๐Ÿ™‚ Sheโ€™s a super star!!

Question โ€“ do you take rest days? How many do you take per week?

ps โ€“ Listen to this song!! itโ€™s only 1.30mins long, and is BEAUTIFUL!

pps โ€“ my current squash collection :p
