Hello!!
Welcome to my blog! This is going to be about three things – Food; because I LOVE to eat – Fitness;– see how I keep fit by looking at the pages on The Loves of my Life – and Freya; me (and expect to see my dear horse Chika appear a few times too…)!
It’s about discovering new foods, and enjoying living life! If you want the long winded background of me, go to the History of Freya page…otherwise, read on!
My Philosophies – in food and life:
Food wise – I don’t believe in cutting any food or food group out. Been there, done that, it doesn’t work, it just makes you miserable. I just try and eat as cleanly and purely as possible. So for me, the less processed a food, the better! It makes me feel good inside and out (seriously, when I ate junk, my skin looked like junk and I felt like junk). But that doesn’t mean no treats! In my opinion, life would NOT be worth living if I couldn’t have dark chocolate…or Ben and Jerry’s chocolate brownie!! some kind of amazing non-dairy ice cream I’m yet to discover/banana soft serve! Everything in moderation I say 😀
I love experimenting with food, and I take masses of inspiration from my favourite bloggers (see the Blog Roll). I want to get better at creating my own recipes, and I’m hoping having a blog will encourage me to do this – you can’t eat the same meal every night, it’d be boring…
I’m also considering going proper vegetarian at the moment, but to begin with I’m just going to start with some meat free days a week, and see how I go! I’ve just recently gone Vegan – it’s a long story, but I know the decision is right.
Life Wise – No regrets! Yep, I think everything happens for a reason, an attitude I’ve developed thanks to my glorious past. Even the bad stuff, no matter how nasty and pointless it seemed at the time, will end up being beneficial in some way. I also think life is short. Yeaaaah it’s the longest thing you’ll ever do..BUT you could die tomorrow! I spent a whole year moaning about how I wanted to go back to America. Then, a month or so ago, I just thought ‘JUST GO’. So I’m off in October to Washington to run a marathon! I’ll miss uni work, and it’ll suck, but heck it’ll be worth it 😛 Sometimes, you just have to do it!
Here are some ‘Top Tens’ about me – feel free to comment and leave your own, I love reading them!

- I. LOVE. FOOD. I love eating it, I love cooking with it, I love looking at it, I love buying it. I can easily kill 3hours just wondering around a supermarket (even if all I want is some veggies…). A dream daytrip to me would be to Whole Foods – it’s the simple things 😛
- I love American TV – Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, 30 Rock, Will & Grace, Friends, 8 Simple Rules, ER…..
- Talking of America – I want to live there! It’s my ultimate dream. So seriously, if any nice single American men who would like a nice English wife who will cook for them lots – send us an email! The same goes for any American employers out there; I’m very hard working!
- I love running – see the Second Love of my Life page.
- I enjoy Christmas music all year round – it’s never the wrong time of year for some Christmas cheer!!
- Hardly random, but you’ll notice it soon enough – I make a LOT of type errors! I type too fast and the ‘n’ key on my keyboard is missing, so it throws me somewhat. That’s my excuse anyhow!!
- I have a big big crush on Arnold Schwarzenegger, the one and only. I have about 16 of his films…
- …And I can blame that on my Dad – he showed me The Terminator when I was young and impressionable, now I’m hooked!
Loves:
Peanut butter, Chika, American TV (Desperate Housewives, Gossip Girl, 30 Rock, Grey’s Anatomy, E.R., Friends, Will & Grace, 8 Simple Rules, Sex and the City…I could go on!), kabocha squash, cinema trips (accompnied by lots of Ben & Jerry’s!), reading [well written!] chick lit, parsnips, oatmeal, greek yogurt, America, horses, hanging with my sister, the feeling you get after a successful long run, reading recipe books, baking, cinnamon (on EVERYTHING), hot chocolate, supermarket (!) and normal shopping, christmas and everything about it – bad music included, long drives with my mum, fresh figs and dried dates.
Hates:
Cauliflower, cheddar cheese, windy weather, scientific films, overly hot weather, not living in the USA, arguments, being sick, being poor (a common occurance as a student…), wet feet/leaky shoes, cold hands.

You can email me at fluffypinksparkles@hotmail . com – not an official email I know..but if I get lots of readers and emails, I’ll get a proper one!!
Hi. You have a terrific blog. I would love to read more of it as you blog more. Your “about” is very striking. I admire your zest for life and running ability. I used to be an avid exercise enthusiast, but have been (and will be) a walker for a long time – going through a journey of mind and soul (and body) hopefully. Great blog, you can check mine out also if you wish…follow me if you like, add me to your roll , whatever…its a silly little blog….sometimes personal…sometimes silly..something product reviews or food…but whatever, it is writing i guess.
Have a nice day 🙂

You are such a beautiful girl!!

Hey! Thanks for stopping by, I hope you do keep reading 🙂 Do you have a horse too? 🙂 xx
Hey,
this is weird. I read about you, and feel that you are one who can truely understand the difficulties I am facing. I have been an anorexic for three years now, but hope that this time, with a new treatment, will be the time when I actually get healthy again. Reading about you gave me hope. It made me think that Hey, I can do this too. I think I will follow your blog and see what you eat, and get some tips on my own for eating. I desperately need to gain weight ( 47 kilo, 1.77 cm- it is scary). I wish you all the best, and thank you for giving me hope 🙂 Feel free to mail me if you want to.
Hedda, Norway.
I just found your blog and already love it! What caught my eye was that you now workout because you love it, not because it’s a chore. I feel the same way, I LOVE working out. My friends think I’m nuts but its my passion, what can I say? 😉
awh thankyou! Yeah, a lot of people think I’m weird cos I enjoy it, it’s so frustrating sometimes!! So it’s nice to hear from a fellow fitness freak 😀
Gotta love those UK bloggers! 😉
I’m from the Midlands… woop woop.
I just found your blog (clicked over from IowaGirleats). I love reading her blog everyday and now I am going to add yours to my daily read. I love it that you want to move to America because I desperately want to move to the UK! I studied abroad in college in Swansea, Wales and have wanted to live somewhere “across the pond” ever since. I practice my accent (although horrible) all of the time! 🙂
It basically boils down to the fact that I am too scared to make the leap!
Peace~
Awh thankyou!
Haha, maybe we should do an identity swap and I’ll live there and you can live here 😛 (OBVS I’m joking!). You’re lucky though, I think it’s easier to move here than it is to move the USA- they seem to want to make emigrating there as near impossible as IS possible!!
Thanks for commenting and reading anyway 🙂
Just came across your blog while i should have been studying and i couldn’t help but read on! Great to see that you love running and good eats ALMOST as much as i do! 😉 Looking forward to finding some time to read your blog! -Adam
Ahh, a blogger who rides! I was on the equestrian team at my university, even though I was very overweight (needless to say I wasn’t a very good rider!)
I haven’t ridden since I graduated, but I’m so eager to get back into it — I’m much lighter and stronger, so how I could be anything but better? 🙂
Ooh you definetly should! And it’ll make you even MORE strong! Hooray for horses 🙂
Yay – it’s nice to finally find a food & fitness blogger in the UK! I am brand new to blogging but love love love reading regular blogger blogs but can not always relate as the food is different in the US. I have just found your blog so going to have a good read as i would like to become a regular blogger too. I am going to add you to my feed, so excited to find a UK blogger!!!!!
Hehe thankyou!! I had the same problem with USA blogs, partly why I decided to start my own! England is so underrepresented…thanks for adding me to your feed 🙂
I love your blog! you have such a healthy way of looking at things and seriously… all you healthy eat bloggers have changed my life 🙂 Therefore, I thank you all….the weight is staying off thanks to the diff. kinds of veggies and deliciousness that yall are exposing me to :))))
Awh thankyou so much! Blogs really hlped me too – it’s strange how something so simple can be SO good for us. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Just found your blog and I like it!! I totally agree with you about tea….ick..hate it too!! 🙂
THANKYOU! At last, a fellow tea hater 🙂
I just found your blog from your comment on Carrots N Cake! It’s so fun to find a non-US blogger! 🙂
I love your About Me page! I can’t wait to read more of your posts. Productivity at work is about to go down…. 🙂
You hate “not living in the USA”?? I would LOVE to live in England. Grass is always greener, right? 🙂 What part of USA did you fall in love with?
Well I’ve fallen in love with the place as a whole, but I visited Maryland/Washington DC and loved it 😀
I love finding food-obsessed college kids like myself, especially when said kid has a passion for oatmeal! I know you are dying to live in America, but I’m DYING to live in England! I just want to at least visit once in my lifetime! Also, I could totally mosey around a grocery store for three hours…I love looking at food. Looking forward to more posts!
– Sara
Haha, you’re welcome to swap places with me! I’ll live in the US, you can live here – problem solved!
Just found your blog through the lovely Jess’ at The Process of Healing and I’m totally hooked. I’m a rider/runner/foodie too!! ❤ It's such fun to read an English blog, my theos lives outside of London and it's great to recognize the accent in the words you use when you write. I love it!
Can't wait to read more about you and your lovely horse.
XO!
Steph
Yay!! It’s nice to see fellow horse/running/food fans out there – I feel like we’re a rare breed 😛
Thanks for commenting :)xx
LOVE all your top tens! I can agree with lots of them! And I have been riding horses since I was about 8 so I’m ecstatic that I found another foodie blogger who does too. Can’t wait to read your posts!!
Ok, this is going to sound weird and maybe somewhat stalkerish, but I just found your blog through a comment you left on HTP saying that your birthday is May 27th. Mine is too!!! And so I knew immediately I had to check your blog out! 😉
Also, I love your approach to eating and would happily switch places with you anytime. I’ve never actually been to Europe at all and am dying to get over there!!
I’ll definitely be following you now 🙂
Hah no way! That’s so cool 😀 Happy Birthday to us [soon] then!
Thankyou for stopping by and reading – I’ll be following you too 😛
Hi there! Saw your link over on CNC and realized we had a lot in common….like horses, food and trashy magazines 🙂 ha ha I am pretty new at this blogging stuff and have not really gotten my blog up and going….I’m not very tech savvy…..plus I find myself reading/enjoying all the fun blogs out there…..theres no time left to spend on mine!
Just wanted to say I love your blog and your dislike of tea really cracks me up. I thought all Brits loved tea!
xo- Jules
Hey I only just found your blog but I love it already! It’s always so good to find other British food blogs – I’ll definitely be subscribing 🙂
[…] was partly inspired by a fellow UK blogger, Freya. I love parsnips and have seen them on her blog a few times recently. So I decided to add some to […]
[…] and before I go a little shout out to Freya who has her birthday tomorrow and exams this week: so happy early birthday and good luck for […]
Hey!
Love your blog! Really inspiting story!
So happy to see you are doing so well, and have conquered your ED.
I was just wondering, are you of Icelandic decent?
I am, and Freya sounds very Icelandic.
Hello!
No I’m not – my mum named me after an explorer!! But I think the name is also a Goddess (of Fertility, randomly). It does sound Icelandic though!
Cute blog, just found it. I love your name!!
Awh thank you!
Just wanted to say your horse is beautiful! Whenever I see pictures of someone else’s horses, it makes me harass my husband about getting a horse again some day. I miss riding & showing like crazy! Running is actually my replacement for it….
Awh thank you! Well I’ll keep posting pictures so you keep harrassing your husband, and hopefully you’ll wake up to a smiling horse face in the near future 😀
Hey, I just stumbled across your blog. It looks pretty awesome. I love your top ten section!
Awh thankyou!
I just found your blog, and I completely agree with your philosophy on food. Life would SUCK without dark chocolate!! I have a cupboard full 🙂
Im looking forward to reading more.
I’m glad you agree 😀
Thanks for reading!
What a great persepective. I am pretty sure i agree with you on EVERYTHING! Glad to have found your blog and I think its funny that your english and don’t like tea. Maybe you are actually an american? haha.

Hi there! I wanted to say that you should post some stuff on our blog – http://www.101usesfordatesyrup.wordpress.com You’ve mentioned some great ways to use it and we’re still a bit.. unfamiliar with its goodness over here in the States.
Thank you for the idea! I sure will 🙂
Amazing.
😀
I just read some old posts… oh.. girl, you’re so creative on food!!! I’d probably eat 90% of what you pictured!!! hhahha…. and we share LOVE to squash, specially kabocha, that’s my favorite squash and probably food too!!! 😀
Awh thank you! Good to see a fellow kabocha fan too 😀
I don’t know about vegan instant hot chocolate, but try melting a dark chocolate bar on the stove and stirring in soy milk 🙂 Very yummy and creamy!
OoOo that does sound yummy!
Loved hanging with you at HLS! you should definitely move to America! Can you believe I’ve never been across the ocean? Maybe we can swap places for a bit? 😉
GLADLY! I could use some Florida/theme park fun!!
You always have a place to stay in NYC if you want to visit!
Oh you are such a sweetheart! I may well take you up on that one day…:D
Hi there Freya! just had to pipe up and say I recently stumbled upon your blog and I absolutely love it!! Love your food (I think we have highly similar tastes… most of your meals make me very drooly) and LOVE the way you write! You’re quite a good read 😉 Great discovery, this blog, & I look forward to keeping up with it!
x
Lauren
Awh thank you hun, that’s so nice of you to say!
Hi Freya,
Came upon your blog by chance today, and I must say it’s fantastic! You have quite a collection of homemade healthy meals. This is right up my alley. I will definitely be trying some of these.
I see you’re a huge fan of running. I’ve recently gotten into this activity (about 5 months), and I just can’t stop! If you told me a year ago that I’d be an avid jogger/runner next year, I probably would have laughed hysterically. However, now I know what all the fuss is about. I only wish I had started way early.
Anyway, your blog is excellent, so keep up the good work. Am definitely gonna return here from time to time, especially for those food recipes, ha. I started a fitness blog earlier this year, so you could check that out if you want: http://myfitnessproject.blogspot.com/
It’s just a little blog about me updating the progress of my fitness goals. I update it weekly, but was on vacation in the UK (Essex) during the past month, hence it hasn’t been updated yet. I think I gained a couple pounds there, but hey, I guess holidays can be overlooked.
Wow, I’ve written an essay. I just wanted to compliment you on your blog, lol. Keep up the great work.
Awh thank you for the comment! I like essay-like comments, so don’t apologise :p
It’s funny you were in Essex – I live about an hour from there! Small world 🙂
Congrats on the running too btw!
Stumbled upon your blog and finished catching up on about the last 10 posts. I have a couple of new ideas for dishes I want to try, thank you very much.
I enjoyed all of your posts and journey through running, fitness, nutrition, food, cats, horses, etc.
I have you on my google reader now and look forward to following your blog.
Thank you for following the blog! I look forward to a shiny new reader 😀
Hi Freya, I just stumbled across your blog today and I find your writing so inspiring! I am also a university student, in Washington State (USA), and trying to balance my health freak side with indulgent sweet-tooth side. It makes it easier to act healthfully when I learn about girls elsewhere who try as well! Thank you!
P.S. If you come to the US you should visit the Pacific Northwest- it’s beautiful here! I’ve always wanted to go to England- at least reading your blog is *sort of* like being there….? Haha
Hello! I’m glad you’re enjoying it 🙂
Ooh I’d love to visit there! if you ever want a British lodger, you know who to call :p
Just wanted to tell you that I love reading your blog! Hope you had a great weekend 🙂
I really enjoyed reading your blog you are an amazing woman with amazing talents and strength . I used to ride as well but have not done so in more than a decade. May life’s road always lead to happiness and prosperity for you.
Wishing you success and the best days to come
Thank you hun!
haha thats so funny! I’m that weird chick that could spend 3 hours in a grocery store as well! I don’t know what it is! hahaha .
I think it’s a blogger thing :p we’re all a bit weird…
Hey, just found your blog and was intrigued by the word ‘brit’ in the title…your right there’s so few UK bloggers. I’m actually from south east england too-whereabouts do you go to uni? i’m in love with the US too, i’m currently studying abroad in New York but i come home in 4 and a half weeks which sucks! It’s been so exciting to finally try all the food products that i read about that we can’t get in UK. And i’m totally always in the supermarket for a good few hours-over here i’m even worse than back home!
I love your blog! I can’t wait to read more! 🙂
Just found your blog and I love it so far! I must admit I feel like the American version of you (I’m studying abroad in London this semester) and love running! Did you do the Marine Corps Marathon in the fall? I live outside D.C. and couldn’t get in so I did another marathon closer to my school. I heard its a fun race with lots of costumes 🙂
Hello!
I did do the Marine Corps yes – it was amazing! Less costumes than I thought there’d be (considering it was halloween) BUT still increddddible!
Have a great time studying in London – it’s lovely isn’t it!?
Just wanted to say hey and I love, love, love the blog! 😀
Hi there!
I’m so glad I found your blog. I love it!!
“I can easily kill 3hours just wondering around a supermarket (even if all I want is some veggies…). A dream daytrip to me would be to Whole Foods”
–> that is so me! I’d go to Whole Foods and stay there for hours just walking around looking at all the foods there!
I hate cauliflower and love oatmeal too 🙂
xoxo
I just found your blog and already I love it! It is so unique and fun! I am excited to read about how you decided to go vegan. But I do have to suggest you give cauliflower another try, there are so many fun uses: cauliflower rice, mashed “potatoes” it’s a whole world of cauliflower out there! And so far that I know there are no instant vegan hot chocolate’s 😦
Hello! I just found your blog and I am so happy that I did! 🙂 I am a horse fanatic, rode for 10 years then stopped due to an accident. Recently, I just moved for college and started riding again! Riding is my absolute love! Not only is riding my passion, but I recently picked up the hobby of running a few months ago-training for my first 10k!
I look forward to following your blog!
Best wishes, Allyson
