I have baked SO MUCH TODAY. Seriously. Like oh my gosh. I actually didn’t leave the kitchen aaaall morning cos I was cooking away 🙂
My first task was a coffee and walnut cake for my gran and grandpa (their request). Easier said than done; disaster struck when my scales broke! Considering the recipe I had was in grams, it was rather annoying…but alas, I improvised and googled grams –> cups convertors and used my cups instead. I was kinda winging it a bit though! In the end, it turned out fine 🙂 I forgot to get a photo of the whole thing, but here are the skanky edge bits that I saved for my mum et al:
The rough edges..oh how I spoil them 😛
Next job was some brownies! My first baking attempt from my Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook. Again, I had to guess somewhat with the measurements, but they turned out well enough:
See? I was pleased 🙂 And they went down a storm 😀
Next on the Cooking Hit List was a lovely lunch, but I’ll show y’all that when I get to lunch 😀
First up – breakfast and pre-breakfast 🙂
Pre-breakfast – an apple, wheatgerm, and DVD awesomeness. Next up, big epic epic epic EGM breakfast:
Hello, wonderful…it’s been too long since I last had you…
Ok, NOW I’ll tell you about my wonderbar lunch – split pea soup! My first ever attempt no less 🙂 I was pleased! I cooked up together…:
- a small 1/4 cup yellow split peas
- curry powder
- salt and pepper
- butternut squash
When the peas were cooked, I scooped out some of the veg, and then half-heartedly blended the rest of it – so it wasn’t smooth – then added the veggies back in. VOILA!
So easy to do but sooo tasty 🙂 And it had such a spice kick; 1 tsp of curry powder goes a looooong way….
The other bit of lunch was a salad; salad leaves, cherry tomatoes, cantaloupe melon, butternut squash, as well as two RAW Crispbreads:
Ohh it was all so good..I wish I could bang on forever about how wonderful it was :p but I shan’t cos that would just be REALLY dull.
After lunch, Poppy and I went to deliver the cake to my gran, and just say hello in general. It’s been so long since I’ve seen her and my grandpa, and they are literally, THE sweetest people ever! What is it with the elderly? They’re either delightful and cute and give you toffees, or they’re horrible witches who beat you with a stick My gran is the former…what are your grandparents!?
Anyway, my gran and grandpa loved the cake (although I think half of my grandpa’s portion ended up either in his beard, or on his shoe, LOL!), and they seemed to like Miss Poppy too 🙂
I shot back after seeing them to get the horses sorted out, had a lovely snack of yogurt and granola:
And before I knew it, it was time to start cooking dinner! Ack, I was a bit cooked out by this point, so it was just simple stuff for dins. Cubed and apple sauce and cinnamon baked tempeh, and agave kabocha, celeriac and parsnip, and a mix of rice, spelt and barley (cooked with s+p, cinnamon and nutmeg):
It was very delicious 🙂
Right – my sister and I have a Gossip Girl season 2 marathon date now, so I best be off 😀 We are so obsessed with that show..after we’ve watched an episode, we seem to go through a phase of calling each other H and F, just like they do in the show 😛 we’re so sad! Anyone else a GG fan!? Show yourselves!
*Edit: I almost forgot – I had a bowl of cereal last night after my birthday meal; veggies don’t fill you up!
