Yeaaah, I’m on a cooking roll!!
I made another awesome dinner tonight, I was very proud again 😀
AND I did a whole load of revision note writing up, it was pretty productive. Don’t you love productive afternoons!? It’s so much easier to work when I’m at [my real] home too – I can spread out all my notes:
I can’t do that at uni – my desk is barely big enough to hold my laptop, let alone a whole bunch of papers too :s
However, it was kinda sad that THAT’S what I spent my Valentine’s day doing, especially after I read Kristin’s blog (iowagirleats.com) – her mum put on this massive waffle brunch with millions of toppings and it was amazing! I love how much of a big deal the USA makes out of holidays. It’s just one more thing to add to my list of Reasons I Want to Move to America!! Firstly though, I need to find a nice American husband…any takers!? I’d make a top notch wife :p
OH – And I read a weird story in the paper today – a NINE year old girl threw a tantrum in her school in Florida – so the police were called and they handcuffed her and took her to an ADULT mental health facility!! Apparently she’s too traumatised to return to school….I don’t blame her! I just thought I’d share that gem with y’all 🙂
Onto das fud:
I snacked on 1/2 a Trek bar (they have 11g of protein and I wasn’t hungry – I did not need a full bar!):
They’re so natural and delicious and amazing (and vegan & raw, randomly):
I also had a fabby hot chocolate out of my Valentine’s special mug :p
Dinner was super cool – I roasted up some squash and parsnip with cinnamon and set aside. Meanwhile, I got 1/3cup dry weight of durum wheat (LOVE that stuff!!) and mixed it with cinnamon, cumin and a squeeze of tomato puree, and cooked it in stock (about 1 cups’ worth):
Meanwhile (again – I must have about 4 arms to do all this at the same time :p), I fried 2 shallots and some garlic for a minute or so, then added in a chicken breast:
It took forever to cook, but when it was eventually done, I transferred it into some foil to keep warm, and poured the leftover jucies back into the pan, along with the onion/garlic, 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar and about 1/6th cup stock:
While it was reducing, I stirred the cooked veggies into the durum wheat so it was all mixed together, then plated it all up, and poured the reduced balsamic sauce thing over the chicken:
IT WAS GOOD!! Wowzer.
The balsamic onion sauce glaze thing was PERFECT today – exactly the right consistency and sweetness and…just mouthgasmic!!
I need to name this recipe so I can add it to my recipe list – any suggestions? Durum Wheat Balsamic Good Chicken Mess Thing doesn’t really have much of a ring to it….
For my evening snack, I had some fromage frais, a hot chocolate and another brownie 😛 This time I blasted it in the microwave and, if at all possible, it was even better! It had the old crusty-outside-gooey-inside thing going on 😀
So dreamy 🙂
You know what is screaming my name right now?
Desperate Housewives Part II!! I watch the first 17mins while I ate and drank my evening snack, so now I can watch the next installment 🙂 I’m trying to draw it out, seeing as I only have 7.5episodes left..I don’t want it to end!
Goodnight everyone and happy Valentine’s 🙂
Happy Valentine’s to you too! I had a completely normal day and then ate 2 oranges with chocolate a la Kristin- so yummy! Where’d you get the Trek bar? It looked delish!!!
Haha for a second I thought you meant two Chocolate Oranges (as in the solid chocolate ones!) – I think Kristin’s version was probably yummier and healthier 😛
I got the Trek bar from the online store – naturalbalancefoods.co.uk (I think…) – my mum got me a big gift box at christmas 😛
Thanks for the sweet comment! I’m looking forward to following you 🙂
lol i totally ate a trek bar in each flavour today! thirtyandhealthy you can find them in all holland and barret stores and i managed to get them in the ‘free from’ isle in sainsburys: ).
Freja did you say you could do the Vitality Show on the Sat? we could both do a bit moree of a search around UK bogs to see if enough people want to come?
OK now i feel bad at how UNproductive i’v been- back to history of sport *shudders* xx
Haha love it! How many flavours are there? I’m having a Cocoa brownie one tonight I’ve decided 😛 Have you been on the online store? They have SO much!!
Yeah I think I could so Sat! I’ve been clicking on lots of smaller blogs in the search for English people..we are few and far between !!
Hope the history of sport went well….xx
How does fromage frais taste? How does it compare to greek yoghurt and natural yoghurt? Do you use all natural stuff? Eat with sweet or savoury? I’ve been thinking about getting some since it has similar nutritional stats to greek yoghurt at about half the price! Also, where did you get the Trek bar from? I’ve only ever seen them in Boots.
Uuum it’s ok, nowhere near as good as Greek! It doesn’t have the creaminess, and it’s way more runny so quite like just normal natural. It’s sliiightly more tangy I’d say.. The brand I use is Normandy Natural Fromage Frais, and there is nothing extra added 🙂 I think for the protein hit you get with it (7.5g per 100) it’s pretty good 😀
Trek bar was bought online on the website – naturalbalancefoods.co.uk – my mum got me a big box at christms 🙂
I need to order some more though!!
Totally gonna stick with the greek then! Thanks. 🙂
