Evening my loves! Happy [Horsey] Humpday! I hope y’all are having a good one
I am! In fact, I’ve done a number of good deeds today, but I’ll get onto all that laterz like.
—-
Mr Marathon Plan told me to do 8 miles today…..and that is what I did. 8 long, HOT, tiresome miles…..but I am oh-so addicted to that feeling after
know what I mean!? The run was made mildly easier by some fabulous fuel before hand:
Bear granola nibbles and a Nakd bar – about 40g of carbs, more than a slice of bread. LOVE.
The run itself was, as I said, VERY hot. I started off pretty strong – 8.30miles, but my last mile was just over 9minutes! The heat takes it outta me :s but the whole thing was finished in 1hr10, so not too bad
Breakfast:
See, I’m making the most of my strawberries from yesterday
After breakfast, I did Good Deed Numero Uno – I made my mumma (who was outside teaching in the blazing sunshine) a banana, strawberry and pumpkin seed smoothie:
Then, Good Deed Numero Duno: I baked a lovely banana spice cake, as requested by a lady she works with:
Which picture!?
It was PACKED with dried fruit, dates, coconut, walnuts….so much good stuff
Next, Good Deed Numero Three-o – I made my mum a nice fish sandwich, as she was working right through her lunch break
The poor woman, she works about 18 hours a day! She deserves a medal quite frankly; but I don’t have one, so me making her lunches and doing the dishwasher every day make fine substitutions
The rest of the morning was filled with random..er…stuff?
I made seitan:
Which came out proper crumbly!! Last time I made it, it held together, so I could actually slice it..not so today….I have no idea what I did differently!!? Any seitan makers out there care to shed some light on why?
Bah. I had the BEST (and most massive) summer lunch EVER though! Check it out:
Ooohh yeah baby! An apple, cereal mix, peanut butter puff things (puggets have returned!), strawbs, fresh figs, roasted corn/bean mix (packed with carbs, and in the case of the corn, 73g of protein per 100g :O), cantaloupe melon, yogurt and cinnamon. Oh it was a joy to eat, a true joy….all my favourites packed in there!
Dessert was some of this:
Hemp seed chocolate :s I couldn’t taste the hemp seed :/ and the chocolate wasn’t that incredible either…oh well. You win some, you lose some right!?
The afternoon included a Poppy/reading walk, pretending to stand like a ball boy whilst watching Wimbledon for 20minutes, and experiencing the most gross thing EVER. Kovac brought in a mole (!), which he left under the table. During the day, my mum and I spotted it – she lifted it up to take it out, and do you know what was hiding underneath it? Only about 100 MAGGOTS!!! How sick is that!? No wonder he didn’t eat it! Gawsh I hate cats sometimes….
Anyway, moving swiftly on!
Snack:
A blueberry and vanilla O bar; fabulous, simple ingredients list and counts as one of my 5-a-day – what could be better? It had quite a kick to it too!
Dinner – one of my favvvooouurrite meals! Tofu/peanut butter/carob powder sauce, with wholemeal spaghetti and lots of veggies….
From this:
To this…:
To this!
Good gracious.
Time for Poppy’s second walk now!

Mahah, I didn’t forget it was Horsey Humpday
Though today I was thinking, every day is gonna be Horsey H-Day! It seems LOADS of you love seeing pictures of Chika and Tig and everyone, so I thought at the end of each of my posts now, I’ll put a picture or two up of Chika or whoever (and a little bit of writing too
), every day – the fun never ends over at BCR!!
Sooooo, here’s the first (a still, taken from the video camera):
That would be Chika, the day she arrived back in February 2005. The rider is Hannah. Confused?
Well, the day Chika arrived, my aunt and grandparents all came over to see her. I of course was freakishly excited, so I rode her about for everyone to see. Then (and in hindsight, this was THE dumbest idea known to man), Hannah wanted to have a ride too, so she popped on. But let me tell you it from poor Chika’s point of view – she was rising 6 years old (so a bit of a baby still). She’d had one home since she was bred, and then was suddenly uprooted in the middle of a FREEZING winter and sent somewhere new. She hadn’t been turned out for a full week (bar 7hours), because the ground at her previous yard wasn’t good enough – so you can imagine the stress and emotions she had building up :s Anyway, the poor girl was obviously really stressed and upset, and in the end, having Hannah on board just threw her over the edge! Which resulted in a big bucking/leaping fit….it was horrible to see! Needless to say, Hannah didn’t ride her for a long time after that. But thankfully, Chika doesn’t do that anymore – she’s a very settled, content and happy girl now
She’s also worked her butt off for me – 3 regional championships, and over 200 points in affiliated dressage (to get 1 point, you have to get over a certain % score. The max you can get from one test is 7, and that’s if you do a really freaking incredible test!! So you can tell we did a LOT of competing :p)
Oh! One other random side note, which I thought I’d just put out there while I’m on the topic; so this year, my focus has been running, which will end up with me doing a marathon in October. After the marathon though, I want to take a step back from long distance running. I want to be unfit!! I want 3miles to be a challenge again, instead of having to run 6 before I feel I’ve actually worked!! So I’ve decided to change my focus, post-marathon. To what, I hear you scream!? Back onto Chika!! 2009 was somewhat wasted, 2010 will be running, but from Oct 2010 onwards, Chika and I will make a comeback
heck, I may even have to change the name of the blog, to Vegan Rider or something
ANyway, that was random…but there you go
watch this space!

Oooh you are getting quite the baker aren’t you! That cake looks scrummy! And so does your amazinggg lunch – I wish I could come up with lunches like that!
And I’m sure she will love to be spending more time with you too!
Ohh and if you’re looking for a lot of carbs before a big run, have you ever seen the ‘Science in Sport Go>>> bars’? I got one the other day and it has 44g in just the one bar. I think they’re vegan but you need to check..
I think it’s a great idea that you want to focus more on Chika after your marathon…I think it’s going to be a positive change
Noo I haven’t heard of them! I’ll give them a google
Yeah, it’ll be good to get stuck into it again! I definetly needed a year off from the stress of competing though – I think she did too – but now we want it again
I discovered Cocoa Cherry Bear Granola at the weekend – so yum! Waitrose comes up trumps again. Where did you get the O Bar from? Looks good, and I do love a new healthy snack to try
I’m sure your Mum really appreciates all the things you do for her – the little things are the most important. Emptying the dishwasher doesn’t sound like much, but we are all happy when someone else does it!
I get what you mean about cutting back on the running after the marathon. I think half the fun of these things is improving bit by bit and discovering how far you can go – once you are ‘there’, it’s not quite the same. I am waaaay behind you – building up to my first 10 mile race in October. The furthest I have run so far is 3.5 miles on Saturday. In the blazing heat I was really happy with myself for doing it. Those are the best moments
Well done on the run, that’s brilliant!! I remember the first time I ran 2miles – I collapsed in my garden after for a full 10minutes!! You’ll rock the 10miles
Yep – it definetly is the little things! She definetly appreciates it though, she tells me so
Didn’t think it was possible, but the addition of those strawberries make your EGM look even more epic!
And that spagetti sauce……….looks good-i just never would think to put it on spagetti noodles!
First of all, love the Chika photos (poor Hannah though in the first one)! Your and Chika’s come back sounds interesting!
That Banana Spice cake looks great! Where is the recipe from if you don’t mind me asking?
Love your lunch as well, the presentation looks great!
A Reader’s Digest book
I love fruit lunches
LOL that Kodak story was funny/gross. Mmm maggots!
Fantastic eats as usual and it’s nice to hear you are already thinking about what you’re going to do after your marathon. You and Chika look like a great team so I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun together again!
Your bread is so beautiful!! I’m always so impressed with your baking skills!
Ooh would you like to bake a banana spice cake for me?? Spice cakes are my absolute favorite! I’m sure shipping to the states wouldn’t be too expensive right? =P
Also Chika looks SO much happier! Such a gorgeous horse and rider pair, I can’t get over it!!
Haha, after those compliments I’ll gladly bake you one and send it over!!
yayyy! i’m so excited to read that you’ll be starting competing with chika more after october
i’m sure she will be quite happy, too.
and that banana bread looks amazingg. and send me some of those fresh figs, please?!
Good job on the run! I hate running in the heat… boo!
The bread looks SO GOOD!
And how nice of you to make your mom meals!!
Your lunch looks delicious! I love tasting plates like that. And i’d KILL for some fresh figs! We don’t get those until late in the summer around here.
Love you girl!
And I forgot to mention, your photos are gorgeous!
Aaahaha, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – you get white chocolate peanut butter and maple almond butter; we get fresh figs
Awesome job on the 8 miles! Especially in the heat, that’s a lot of respect I now have for ya girl, you’re gutsy!
I was kind of super excited when I saw that little pack of No Sugar Added Chocolate with them Shelled Hemp Seeds! But bummer on your mini review… maybe I’ll try it anyway? I love no sugar added, it makes me all happy inside.
Happy Wednesday! Almost weekend??
You should give it a go – it’s not that bad, it’s just not ‘wow that’s delicious’ you know? It’s very eatable
Great run and lunch! Glad you enjoyed!
I run on a tril with lots of horsey footprints, which makes me want to get back into riding too. Maybe not this year though – Im just SO busy with my running, writing, the blog, work, wedding planning!!

that’s a fabulous run time! i start out going 8:30/minute miles but i slow down to about 10/min ones in this horrid heat!!
that spaghetti looks really good… i’ve never heard of that combo though. is it sweet or savory?
Totally savoury
Those fresh figs look delicious! I’ve only had dried figs before, but I want a fresh one now!!! THat was a great run, and you are too sweet to make your momma all those meals!
Your mom must eat healthy like you! I’m not sure I could get my family to drink a homemade shake like that! Your horses are all adorable.
Good news that everyday is going to be horsey h-day!!! And how exciting that you and Chika are going to be competing again- I think it’s great and look forward to reading about it all!!!
Where did you buy the O bar and the Bear Granola stuff? Please don’t say Waitrose
I like the milkless ‘milk-chocolate’ by the same people that do the hemp choc.
Nice that you look after you Mumma like that…I am sure she’s sooooo proud of you!
The O bar was from a random health food shop/farm cafe place (though you can get them on Goodness Direct), but I’m afraid the granola was a Waitrose thing
Argh…I knew it
I really wish I had a Waitrose nearby…Wales doesn’t know what it’s missing out on!!!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for the O bars; I wanted to place a GD order today anyway so I will try those out.
