Phheewwweee!! What a busy day! Oh have I been running around like a mad woman
Sorry if I haven’t had time to comment on all the blogs like I usually do…no time!
I had a whole load of revision lectures today, so I had to be at uni. Soo, I PREPARED by getting up bright and early at 6.30am (again – 6hrs sleep is NOT ENOUGH!) to fit in a nice run before I left. I wolfed down an apple, a square of chocolate (it was coffee flavah today – I think that blates helped wake me up…) and 2 tsp wheatgerm, before doing 6.2 and a bit miles. Well, I ran 6miles, and then walked the last bit cos it was SO hot and I needed to cool down before I got back inside. So the 6miles took me in total, 50mins, but overall, I did 10.2k in 54mins. I actually had one minute of walking in the actual run today, so I could chug some water (yes! I was PREPARED and brought some with me!!) – but despite that, the mile I walked in was still 8.40! The rest of the miles were between 8.15-8.30, so not too bad.
When I got back, I was equally PREPARED! I prepped some overnight oats last night [except I used barley flakes]. In the mix:
- 1/3 cup barley flakes
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 tbsp maple syrup
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
Topped with some Lizzi’s chocolate granola, and some frozen raspberries
(no banana– I decided to save my banana for a snack later – I am so prepared….:P)
I shall name this one…Dark Chocolate Overnight Oats
cos it tasted a bit like dark chocolate! Cocoa powder adds a depth of flavour to stuff, I’ve decided.
After that, I drove to the Hideous Place of Education, for a wonderful revision lecture on cognitive psychology…useful it was not! I literally felt like I’d completely wasted two hours or my life. One of the lecturers sat there in silence for 10mins, then left! NO JOKE.
For lunch, I had two parts – part 1) a piece of flaxseed rye bread, 1/2 with almond butter and jam:
And half with lentil pate (the pate is made from lentils, tomato, onion, chickpea, sunflower oil, soya bean fibre, maize starch, yeast extract. It’s kiiiinda like an extremely thick hummus, but not!) – tis the one on the right
:
I also had a salad – a tin of sardines, mixed leaves (watercress, rocket (argula?) and spinach), cherry tomatoes, cucumber, left over squash, aubergine, fresh basil, salt+pepper, a drizzle of balsamic:
It was lovely
I had a bit of a working lunch though:
In case you’re wondering, that’s an email on the screen, written by me, to me, about dopamine
I then had another set of revision lectures – which were also a waste of time!! The lecturer decided to go through a multiple choice exam paper; good in theory, except we’ve had the paper since October, and I’ve already been through it and got the answers!! I left at the midway break, and came home. On the way, I snacked on a banana bread Nakd bar:
It’s pictured with a banana cos last night, when I packed everything up in PREPERATION for the day ahead, I had no idea what I’d want to snack on…hence why I brought these along for the ride too
Alas, they did not get eaten.
Bah, I was sooo low on…energy(?) when I arrived home though! So I made myself a Quick Pick Me Up Green Monster! In the mix:
- 1/2 a small, gross banana (yours doesn’t have to be gross :p)
- spinach
- frozen raspberries for chill factor
- approx 100g plain soya yogurt
- approx 20g All-Bran
Blend!
Serve!
It hit the spot perfectly
and was a fab blend of fruit, veg, carbs and protein. Hooray for GMs!!
I was going to do some more revision, but I just couldn’t face it – I’m mentally exhausted, and my eyes are painful they’re so tired! How do you solve a problem like that? HOT CHOCOLATE. Yes, I made one and felt a little better
Dinner was simple – a smoked sesame almond tofu stir fry, with chickpeas
My mum’s friend at work cooked a Moroccan meal, but he had loads of leftover chickpeas and black eyed beans, which he gave to my mum:
So I kinda needed to use them….!!
The whole mix was covered in lots of soy sauce of course
AND, a tbsp of cocoa powder (added while I stir fried..as usual, lots of cinnamon too) – oh, and some of that weird Japanese spice stuff I showed you the other day! Ohoh, and let’s not forget the splash of agave….
Simple, quick, yum. Who would’ve thought chocolate flavour chickpeas would work so well!? Do you think this meal needs a recipe page all of its own?
For dessert….20 guesses!?

So it seems after reading my Life List yesterday, you guys DON’T think I should go on a bad date!? Why!!?? Shouldn’t everyone experience just one, hideous night, where the person is horrible or a bit of a freak, you have terrible food, you have zilch to talk about…..How would you know what a good date is if you’ve never had a bad one!? I’ve only ever really been on one date (the first time my first boyfriend took me out – after that, we were a couple so I’d assume outings thereafter wouldn’t count), and it was sweet; it was my birthday [which, fyi, is on MAY 27TH!! Write it down
] and we went to a restaurant where his cousin worked. When dessert came out, they’d written ‘Happy Birthday Freya’ in chocolate sauce over the plate, and stuck a candle in my ice cream. CUTE!!
Oh, that’s reminded me of a blog I read the other day – Peanut butter Fingers – I was reading about her fiancé’s proposal, and ooohh my gosh was it romantic! I welled up
I’m such a sucker for romance
What’s been your best/worst date experience? Has anyone ever done anything really romantic for you? And on the subject, what’s your favourite romantic film? I looveeee The Notebook, it makes me cry everytime! As does Black Beauty and PS I Love You…. I love me a good cry from a film
It’d be good to make a list of good films that I can watch when my exams finish
OK, I’m done for the night now – I have to leave my house about 7am tomorrow for ANOTHER revision class, so I need my sleep…
(PS – Has anyone heard the song ‘Crystallised’ by The XX – OH my, LOVE IT!!)

I love your overnight oats – I LOVE rolled barley flakes, but haven’t re-ordered in a while!! I always still refer to my breakfast as oats even when I’m not actually using oats, too, lol. It has more ring than “overnight barley flakes.”
All of your meals look amazing! Sorry about the waste of time lectures :\ There’s nothing worse than that. I’m glad you gave yourself a bit of a revision break, though. It’s good to know when studying more will help or just plain do nothing but make you crazy.
And I lol’d at your bad date explanation. Its true – we don’t appreciate things until we realize how awful they could be!
I love that you have a basil plant girl! I have two in my kitchen in these cute little wooden box-pots and they smell so good! I love to pluck a couple of leaves and add them to pretty much ~everything~.
I’m sorry about the lame revision class. As if your lecturer LEFT!! Haha, that’s awful, and also so funny.
Okay, a word on lame dates. I remember one date (blind) where I was picked up by the guy on his golf cart (private golfing community in floriday) whereupon he immediately removed his shoes, stuck one of his feet up and over onto my side of things and explained about how he liked them to be “free”. He clearly did as they were VERY dirty, VERY long-nailed and generally just so disgusting it was all I could do not to jump out then and there. Ugh. Bad news is he liked me very much and kept trying to ask me out again afterwards!!!
I’ve been with my current boy for three years now and couldn’t be happier. I can’t imagine trying my hand at dating again, hahaha.
Oh my, your bad date tops mine!!!! That’s disgusting!
ps – Ps, I love you kills me every time. The scene where she’s by the wall? And he goes “Ps” and just leans his head on her shoulder? I die. I die. I can’t deal with it. My boyfriend looks like Butler too so it makes it that much more uncomfortable. I can’t watch it without sniffling away!!
Sorry for replying to your comment again but that movie kills me TOO!!!! Oh my geez.
That stir fry looks phenomenal!
And your birthday is the day after my sister’s and the day before my half-birthday (a very momentous occasion!)
hey you, its debs from the emails. Finally resurrected my blog, trying to be super dilligent with it now!
Your chickpea concotion looks yum. I’ve just made some hummus and have left ofter chickies, so it looks like that’s whats for dinner tomorrow!
Good luck with your revision sesh tomorrow (I remember them from this time last year and my word are they a pain!!)
xx
Any date that ends in a high five is not good, thats all i’m saying
Revision lectures are such a waste of time! I can’t believe you had to do something that you already had the answers too. Just stick to what you’re doing and you’ll be fine! I luckily haven’t had a bad date. With one previous bf we used to go out with a lot of other couples and he used to be very distant. That was quite bad I suppose!!
I looooove The Notebook too. Only seen it twice but I cried more the 2nd time, even though I knew what was going to happen! I love The Holiday and Love Actually as well. Brilliant for awwwwwwwww moments!
Ok so your oats? Yum! I need to try barley flakes, for sure. I’m so boring with my plain old oats.
No fun, boo. It’ll be over before you know it!!!
I’m so sorry about your revisions
As for the dates, I guess you have a point. But i’ll tell you, when you have a GOOD date, you will know.. even if you have never had a bad date. I’ve had some fairly bad luck recently. I’ve had my fair share of bad dates and also my fair share of good dates and some dates in the middle. With some people, you just click. Everything comes naturally. Unfortunately, that’s not always a sign that things will work out or that said boy is not a jerk.. moving on, ahem. But honestly, once you feel that kind of chemistry with someone, you won’t want to settle. So it’s good but it’s bad in the same way, you know? My worst date…hmm.. what shall I choose lol Probably the time I was asked out by a waiter at at restaurant. He seemed cute and all but we went out and omg.. it was awful. We had NOTHING to talk about it and I came to the conclusion by the end of the date that if he was not gay, he was bi-sexual. Ummm… yeah. Ha.
The most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me was probably the first Valentine’s Day with my ex-bf of 4 years. We were 16 and 17 at the time and we had a candlelight dinner at his house. It was so sweet, he planned the entire thing, even down to the candles! Granted we had pizza but you know… what more can you ask of a 16 year old boy? And he gave me this GORGEOUS heart diamond necklace. We had our issues, but he was romantic.
Your first date sounds SO SWEET!!!!! Awwwww
Ok now that I have written you a novel… haha have a great night girly! love you!!
Don’t even get me started on overnight oats. Love them!!
I do think you should go on a really terrible date, if not just for the horror story but so that you appreciate good ones! I think my favorite “date” ever was laying outside in the grass watching fireworks on July 4th one summer.
Oh and I think The Notebook is such a fantastic movie! Definitely one of my faves.
Woot! May 27th!!
Sorry, just had to get that out of the way…
First, yes — please make a recipe page for that chocolate flavored chickpea dish! So creative!!
Ok…so about this bad date goal of yours…I can totally understand your reasoning! And while they’re always awful at the time, afterward you can (hopefully) look back and laugh and have something to compare all other dates to….as long as it isn’t bad in a creepy/scary/dangerous-at-all sort of way.
Personally, I have had SO many bad dates I could write a book. But the absolute WORST one would have to be a date where the following things happened (and this is a first date btw and I knew almost nothing about the guy beforehand):
1.) he ordered for me; 2.) he ordered us one drink to SHARE, plopped it down in front of me, told me I could have the first “taste” and then proceeded to drink out of my straw the rest of the time (no I didn’t have another sip after that); 3.) scarfed down his food like a starving refugee without pausing to look up at me, speak, or even breath; 4.) then proceeded to eat off MY plate; 5.) talk to me about Anime as well as his hip hop dancing/modeling work he did on the side; and 6.) jokingly tell me that he doesn’t date girls for their brains, he dates them for their a$$…then after a dramatic pause, let’s me know that mine is A+… (I should’ve known it was a bad idea to agree to go on a date with someone I met at the gym!! hahaha)
Anyway, those are just the highlights. I won’t bore you by going on and on. But in the moment I thought maybe I was stuck on some candid camera show I didn’t know about. Fortunately the date finally ended when he had to get to a “photo shoot”….
So the point of this super long comment is to tell you that if you ever need someone to HELP you find a person to go on a bad date with, please let me know. I seem to have a knack for it.
Way to go on preparing your food so you still get in lots of great nutrition despite a busy day. You show the people that say they don’t have time to eat right how to do it!
